Websites for independent restaurants.

We build your restaurant's website so a hungry person on a phone can read your menu, see whether you are open, get directions and reach you directly for takeout, a table or a private party.

Where restaurant websites lose guests

The menu is the page people want, and it is often the worst one. A scanned PDF or a photo of the printed menu is hard to read on a phone, cannot be read by a screen reader and is invisible to search engines. Guests pinch, zoom, give up and pick the place whose menu they could actually read.

Accessibility is not optional for restaurants. The Department of Justice says the ADA covers the websites of businesses open to the public, and in Robles v. Domino's a federal appeals court held that the ADA applied to the pizza chain's website and app; the Supreme Court declined to review it in 2019. Title III has no exemption for small restaurants, and an image-only menu leaves out every guest who uses a screen reader.

Then there are the delivery apps. DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub bring orders from people who have never heard of you, but they take a commission and keep the customer relationship. Regulars who already love your food often order through an app simply because your website never gave them another way.

Small details also cost covers: holiday hours that were never updated, no mention of parking, no way to ask about a rehearsal dinner without calling during the dinner rush. Each one is a reason to pick somewhere else, and none of them is hard to fix on a site your staff can edit.

What your restaurant website needs

An HTML menu

Your full menu as real text with dish names, short descriptions, prices and dietary notes you confirm. It reads well on phones and with screen readers, and from the Professional package your staff can update prices themselves with the recorded training.

Hours, location and parking

Today's hours, holiday closures, a map, parking or transit notes and whether the entrance is step-free, all reachable from the first screen.

Direct ordering and reservation requests

A form for takeout orders, table requests or questions. From the Professional package, each request goes to your CRM tagged as “reservation”, “catering” or “event”.

Links to your delivery and ordering platforms

Buttons to your pages on the apps you already use, and to your own online ordering system if you have one, so guests choose how to order.

Private events and catering

A page with room capacity, group menus, what's included and a request form, so large parties reach you without a phone tag.

Local search structure

Location details and pages organized to support searches like “brunch near me” in your neighborhood. Included in the Professional and Advanced packages; no ranking is promised.

The package we recommend.

Recommended package: Website Professional

Up to 10 pages fits the menu, ordering, reservations, events, gallery and contact. It includes local search structure, the CRM with tags so event inquiries do not get lost among takeout messages, and recorded training so your team can change prices and hours. If you want guests to pick a reservation slot on their own, the Advanced package adds an appointment calendar, or you can add paid bookings as an extra.

Everything you need to look professional: who you are, what you offer and how to reach you.

    Build with Essential
  2. Advanced

Rules and limits we work within

  • We follow common accessibility practices, such as a text menu, alt text, sufficient color contrast and labeled form fields, guided by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines the DOJ points to. We do not certify ADA compliance; a formal audit is a separate service from a specialist.
  • Allergen and dietary notes are published only as your kitchen writes them. The federal allergen labeling law (FALCPA) does not cover food made to order, but some states and cities have their own rules, so we copy your approved wording rather than invent “nut-free” or “gluten-free” claims.
  • If you serve raw or undercooked meat, eggs or shellfish, your health department likely requires a consumer advisory on the menu under its adopted FDA Food Code. We carry the same advisory onto the web menu.
  • FDA calorie labeling applies to chains with 20 or more locations under the same name. Most independent restaurants are not covered, but if you are, the web menu must follow the same rules as your printed one.
  • The site does not replace your POS or online ordering platform. Connecting to a POS, inventory or loyalty program is a custom integration quoted separately, and platform fees are paid by you to the provider.

Clear answers, from the start.

Why not just upload our menu as a PDF?
PDFs are slow and awkward on phones, often unreadable by screen readers and harder for search engines to understand. A text menu loads fast, works for more guests and can be updated in minutes.
Can the website take online orders with payment?
The site takes order and reservation requests by form or phone. If you need deposits for reservations or events, paid bookings are available as an extra. If you already use an online ordering platform, we link to it from every page.
Will this replace DoorDash or Uber Eats?
No. The apps reach people who don't know you yet. Your website gives regulars a direct way to order pickup or book, and links to the apps for those who prefer them.
Can you make our site ADA compliant?
We build with accessibility practices from the start and keep your menu in real text, which removes common problems. No designer can guarantee legal compliance, so if you have received a demand letter, talk to an attorney and consider a formal audit.
Do you also run restaurant social media?
Yes. We have monthly social media plans for restaurants, and the photos taken for your website can feed your posts.
